This is the Special Hobby 1/48 Spitfire Vc built up to represent A58-70 (ex RAF No BS178 ) ZP-D of 457 Sqn RAAF, Livingstone, Northern Territory, Australia, August 1943. The aircraft is sporting a a painting of an Eagle tearing an Eagle as a result of the probable shooting down of a Betty on June 28th 1943.

This aircraft carries the original RAF Azure Blue undersurfaces and Dark Earth upper colour; the mid stone having been replaced by Foliage Green. Neither RAF or Australian serial number was applied, and the aircraft sported the largest Wing roundels to appear on an RAAF spitfire. A58-70 was scrapped after crash landing in August 1943.

Kit - Special Hobby 1/48 Spitfire 'RAAF service'
Decals - Kit
Main colours Gunze H302 Foliage Green, H72 Dark Earth, Lifecolor UA098 Azure Blue
The paint chipping was achieved by using the 'salt' technique, very happy with my first attempt at this. Weathering was by brown and dark 'FM' wash and Tamiya weathering pigments including the lighter than normal exhaust staining as the engines were tuned very lean in order to increase range and loiter time.

Not the easiest of builds, but a lot of detail, includes P/E and resin, and builds into the most accurate out of the box Spitfire Vc.
